I samband med AviFaunas resa till Iran i april 2004 överlämnades en kikare som gåva till Houman Jowkar, iransk biolog som förutom att guida AviFauna bl.a. arbetat med projekt för att rädda de iranska populationerna av gepard, karettsköldpadda och asiatisk vildåsna. Förstklassiga kikare är nämligen i stort sett omöjliga att få tag på i Iran.

I samband med överlämnandet läste Magnus Ullman upp följande hälsning:

 "Iran is one of the most important Middle East countries when it comes to birds – both for breeding, wintering and migrating birds.
While ornithology has a long tradition in Iran – the home of Irania gutturalis – we feel that modern ornithology is only taking its first steps in your country.
In this respect, active naturalists like Houman Jowkar can play a very important part – in his own right as well as an example to younger ornithologists.
But, to fulfil this mission, Houman, you need optical equipment that will match your skills as a nature conservancy labourer.
So, please accept these binoculars, Houman. You will need them. And they will need you."
